The Fancy Goncalo Alves differs from the "regular" Goncalo in that the wood has lot's of contrasting chocolate brown stripes or patches running through the wood. Color ranging from light golden brown to reddish brown, with irregularly spaced blackish brown streaks are seen in this wood.
The most distinctive wood comes from South America, and includes Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
