The Serenity Prayer has been prayed by millions since it is widely acknowledged to have been written by Reinhold Niebuhr.  The Serenity Prayer was written at his stone cottage and first preached by Mr. Niebuhr in the Heath Union Church in 1943.

"God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference."

Early in World War II, with Dr. Niebuhr's permission, the prayer was printed on cards and distributed to the troops by the U.S.O.  By then it had also been reprinted by the National Council of Churches, as well as Alcoholics Anonymous.

The "modern" version of the prayer (noted above) is used for this special gift ...
Many have done substantial research on the history and origins of this prayer.  Regardless of the "human" source, this inspired prayer has been part of the  healing process of many people for a very long time.
